Coaches always say "you can't explain coaching, you have to be coached to get it." Well I'm going to try to explain coaching, and why top entrepreneurs and VCs are investing so much in it. I hope this is valuable as you explain your work.

  • Okay I'm listening to this first time and I feel quite good to be honest, because I do always think about my leadership style and how I come in front of people, although people always tell me stop thinking about what people think about you

    1612541202

  • Both are right. See first point, and last point in #4

    1612543718

  • Thanks for the insight Ryan. Any tips on how to nudge leaders you work with to look/ask/listen/interpret?

    1612537905

  • Good question. I’d always start with the direct way, but if that hasn’t worked it depends on whether the leader is conscious (as defined here). What have you tried?

    1612540877

  • Thanks for the great insights. Do you have any specific coaching frameworks or methodologies you would recommend over others?

    1612386386

  • Oh geez. Yes, plenty. But I don’t subscribe to any in particular. I more view it as different tools for different jobs.

    1612443696

  • I asked because I was interested to hear your response.

    1610899379

  • I think yes, in a way, although not a typical one. Most of his work helps others accomplish their goals, but he works at scale.

    1610910921

  • Interesting, thanks for sharing this! What if you don't know who you want to be yet? Let's say you are at the middle of your career (it means nothing, but it's just a weird way to say not an entry level), you are not worried about exiting your comfort zone, and you rely on lifelong learning. Would finding a mentor(s) help?

    1611993010

  • I tend to think surrounding yourself with mentors always helps. It’s tough to see what’s possible for you from where you’re currently standing (at least anything other than what you’ve always seen as possible for you).

    1612011210

  • What do you think about a coach asking for 1% of sales revenue as compensation? Is this common in your industry?

    1611970807

  • I wouldn’t say common, no. Usually it’s a standard monthly retainer for services.

    1612011036

  • As a 7 time founder this couldn't have been more accurate.

    1611928532

  • Glad you found it useful! Just sent you a message Re LinkedIn

    1611934285

  • How is vulnerability being defined here as?

    1611327746

  • IMO this is an important question.

    1611331899

  • That sounds more like being honest than vulnerable?

    1611340480

  • To me vulnerability is being honest about things that are uncomfortable.
